doula

Doula is a Greek word meaning "woman servant or caregiver" and
is most recently used to refer to a professionally trained woman
who provides physical and emotional support during labor. Having
a doula present during labor often results in shorter labors with a
reduced need for medical intervention as well as increased self-confidence in the birth process for both the mother and her partner. Click here to learn more about the benefits of having a doula.

Passionate about pregnancy, birth and the entire process, my role as a doula is one of calming support. By offering a constant presence, my goal is to help the laboring woman and her partner feel empowered and, together, achieve the birth they desire.  I have received invaluable education and tools to provide the best support possible by attending both the ALACE and DONA training workshops.  As a doula, I have experience attending both home and hospital births, as well as first hand experience with the recent birth of my first child who was born at home on May 22nd.

I will be taking some time off with my new baby but will be available beginning November '08 to begin attending births again.
